Phyllis Jean Akin, 81, of Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Calsag, IL on September 23, 1943, to the late Vasco and Pearl Gibson Coomer. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Bill Dickey Akin in 2015.

Mrs. Akin was a member of the Flatwoods Separate Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, doing crafts, especially Christmas ornaments, cooking, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include two children Karren Loy (Howard) of Columbia, KY and Bill Dickey Akin, Jr. (Angie) of Burkesville, KY; a stepson Larry Akin (Rhonda) of Decatuir, AL; fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; a son-in-law David Smith of Campbellsville, KY; four siblings Cleda Coleman (George) of Tennessee, Ronald Coomer of Russell Springs, KY, Karen Lissak (Bob) of Illinois, and Betty Melson of Columbia, KY; three sisters-in-law Dorothy Coomer, Lillie Coomer, and Dawn Coomer all of Columbia, KY and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Dinah Smith, and seven siblings Opal Coffey, Louise Allen, Elwood Coomer, Dale Coomer, Earl Coomer, Donald Coomer, and Maurice Coomer.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial ion the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00pm and will continue Saturday morning until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
