Obituary

Phillip Russell Garmon, 82, of Columbia, KY, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on August 18, 2026. Born on March 2, 1944, in Columbia, KY, Phillip lived a full life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.

Phillip was a proud son of Stanley Russell and Ruth Brockman Garmon, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Garmon, who was his steadfast partner throughout the years. Together, they built a loving family whom Phillip cherished deeply.

Phillip's children, Cameron Garmon (Brooke) and Renee Kemp (Talmadge), hold dear the lessons and values he instilled in them. He was a devoted father who prioritized his family above all, offering guidance, support, and unwavering love.

Phillip found immense joy in being surrounded by his grandchildren: Kailey Garmon, Kelsi Walker, Kenli Walker, Amber Neat, Tyler Kemp, John Savage, and Isabela Savage. He took pride in each of their accomplishments and shared many memorable moments with them, whether teaching them about the outdoors or simply enjoying their company. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Kayden Kemp, Theodore Kemp, and Atticus Neat, who will grow up hearing stories of his kindness and warmth.

He is also survived by three devoted sisters: Joyce Dalton (Ronnie) of Somerset, KY, Naomi Bruce of Columbia, and Kay Hammond of Columbia, who shared in the memories of childhood and supported one another throughout the years. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Bro. Larry Brown and several nieces and nephews.

Phillip answered the call to serve his country as a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska. This period of his life was a source of great pride and forged lasting values of duty and perseverance that guided him throughout his lifetime.

His professional life reflected a strong work ethic as he held positions as a truck driver for both Buck Horn Block Company and Waste Connections in Campbellsville, KY. Through his diligent work, Phillip was known for his reliability and dedication.

Outside of his work and responsibilities, Phillip enjoyed a number of hobbies and interests that brought him closer to nature and his loved ones. He found peace in hunting, fishing, and gardening—pastimes that afforded him both solace and joy. More than anything, Phillip delighted in spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, creating experiences and memories that will be cherished for generations.
