Obituary

NORMAN COOMER 80 of Columbia, KY passed away Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2:45 am at the Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia, KY after several months illness.

He was born January 17, 1933 in Sparksville, KY the son of the late Haskin Joseph and Myrtle Janes Coomer

He was preceded in death by his wife: Barbara Joyce Hovious Coomer on

January 26, 2008 and by one sister: Bernice Murphy in 1986

Survived by one son: Steve Coomer and wife Lou Anne of Columbia, KY

One daughter: Susan Willis and husband Mark of Columbia, KY

One sister: Bea Beard of Columbia, KY

Five grandchildren: Joshua Willis, Jordan Willis, Derek (Megan) Coomer, Paige Coomer, Landon Coomer, also survived by several nieces and nephews. Also survived by a special friend Steve "Tojo" Phillips of Columbia, KY

Mr. Coomer was a longtime businessman operating Haskin Coomer and Son Building Supplies along with his son, Steve. Norman was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School superintendent. He was a U S Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, Columbia VFW Post 6097 member, a past president of the Adair County Fair, former Columbia City Councilman and also served as Adair County Judge Executive pro tem. Norman had a lifelong passion for basketball that began during his high school years when he played for the Columbia Redhounds and he was a loyal supporter of the Adair County Indians basketball program.

Funeral service: Monday, January 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home Clergy officiating: Rev. Neil Janes

Interment in the Columbia Cemetery
