Nell Lee Tarter Rogers passed away peacefully on December 13th, 2011, at Hosparus Care of Louisville with her daughter at her side after an extended illness. Formerly of Columbia, Kentucky, she was born in Adair County in 1920, the first child of Sally and Estell Tarter. She took pride in her hometown, and beamed whenever she met a fellow Columbian in her travels. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman "Short" Rogers on Jan. 21, 1974

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her younger daughter Sheila Goodpaster-Troyer & husband Stuart of
Shepherdsville, Ky.

Grandson Shawn Goodpaster & wife Jamie of Louisville, Ky.
Great Grandson Brody Goodpaster
Mrs. Rogers was an active member of the Columbia United Methodist Church. She graduated from Lindsey Wilson College and Campbellsville College . She taught elementary grades for the Adair County School System for 30 years, the first 15 in a one-room school house, where her students affectionately addressed her as 'Miss Nell.' She inspired many of her students to value education and fostered a life-long love of learning.
In 1977, Mrs. Rogers retired, and devoted her time to the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Methodist Women. She looked forward each week to the faith and fellowship of her Sunday School Class. Her favorite indulgence, in which she took great joy, was her opportunities to travel for vacations with her friends and family.
Funeral Services will be held at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at
2:00 P. M. CST
Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery
Visitation 4:00 P.M. CST Friday
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Columbia United Methodist Church.
