Michael Jerry Burkhardt, aged 76, of Columbia, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Born on September 24, 1949, in Springfield, Ohio, Michael lived a life marked by devotion to his family and a passion for the outdoors.
Michael was known as an avid trap shooter, whose enthusiasm for the sport was matched only by his love for woodworking, hunting, and fishing. He took great joy in handcrafting his own fishing lures and had a meticulous interest in reloading ammunition. Alongside these hobbies, he cherished spending quality time with his family and friends, creating memories particularly treasured during his gambling trips with his beloved wife, Rebecca.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Benson Burkhardt of Columbia, KY. He was a proud father to his children, Aaron Burkhardt, along with his wife Deana, of Russell Springs, KY, and Tammy Standley, with her husband Rodney, of Bellefontaine, OH. His legacy also lives on through his beloved grandchildren: Cody Burkhardt and his wife Bri, Lane Burkhardt and his wife Bekah, and Taylor McCafferty. Furthermore, he was a cherished great-grandfather to Jax, Lettie, and Callie Burkhardt, all of whom brought him immense joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Hans and Avanell Runyan Burkhardt, who no doubt shaped the values and character he carried throughout his life.
The family will hold a visitation on June 17, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM central time at Stotts-Phelps-Mc Queary Funeral Home, located at 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728.
