Maxwell Barkley Hancock, age 85, of Greensburg, KY passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 9th, 2024, at his residence. During his illness Max was surrounded by family and friends, he passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was born on August 12th, 1938, in the Fry community of Greensburg, to the late Ammon and Grace Buckner Hancock.
Max was a devoted member of the Mt. Gilead Christian Church and served as an Elder. He was a hardworking man, a lifelong farmer. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army as a MP. He loved his family and cherished old friends. He was known for his honesty, integrity, work ethic, compassion, his dedication to provide for others, and his devotion to the Lord. Max was a man of meaningfulness and of his word. He was a good neighbor and friend to many, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Hancock; two sons, Barkley Hancock (Brandy Hancock), and Kirby Hancock (Robin Hancock); four grandchildren, Sarah Redmon (Michael Redmon), Dylan Hancock, Hayden Hancock, and Hudson Hancock; and one great grandchild, Behr Hancock; a sister-in-law Brenda Hancock; a special family friend Frances Becker; his best friend Bill Wilson and countless others of family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Max is preceded in death by five siblings, F.B. "Buck" Hancock, Russell Hancock, Kayvena Davis, Allison Hancock, and Talmadge Hancock.
Funeral services will be 10:00am Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00pm and will continue Saturday morning until time for the service.
Bro. Erick Riddle and Bro. Robbie Harmon will be officiating, and pallbearers will be Dylan Hancock, Hayden Hancock, Hudson Hancock, Sarah Redmon, Michael Redmon, and Wesley Melson.
