Lilburn Winson Roy, aged 86, of Columbia, Kentucky, peacefully passed away at his residence on April 4, 2026. Born on June 6, 1939, in Adair County, KY, Lilburn was a devoted and gentle man whose quiet strength and warm smile touched the lives of many who knew him.
Lilburn dedicated 12 years of his life to serving the community through his work with the Adair County Road Department. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a man of many passions. A longtime member of the Old Paths Church, he contributed significantly to his community, including serving as a founding board member for Westlake Hospital in Columbia. His leadership extended to the political arena as a former Chairman of the Adair County Republican Party. Among his unique interests was his avid collection of antique soda bottles. He meticulously compiled a 28-page booklet focused on the Dr Pepper Bottling Plant that once thrived in Columbia, a testament to his dedication to preserving local history.
Known for his soft-spoken nature and gentle demeanor, Lilburn enjoyed vegetable gardening and cherished spending time with his family and friends. His smile was a constant comfort and a reflection of his loving spirit.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Geneva May Yarberry Roy; his son, Steve Roy, and Steve’s wife, Sharman. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives who will remember him fondly.
Lilburn was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Olie and Bessie Susan Combest Roy, as well as his siblings Charlie Roy, James Roy, and Eva Ray Roy.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Freedom Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00-8:00pm and will continue Tuesday until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
Lilburn Winson Roy’s legacy is one of unwavering kindness, community dedication, and quiet joy. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
