Obituary

JOHN D. LOWE III age 81 years of 307 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY passed away

Monday, March 26, 2007 at 7:55 A.M. at the Westlake Regional Hospital after a short

Illness. He was the son of the late: John D. and Aileen Ritchey Lowe Jr. of Columbia, KY

Mr. Lowe was a member of the Columbia Christian Church where he had served as a deacon

and as church Treasurer since 1959. Mr. Lowe was active with the Men for Christ.

He was a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and the

University of Kentucky School of Pharmacy in 1951.

Member of the Columbia Utility Commission from 1966 - 1974 then from 1976 until 1998,

he served as Chairman of the Columbia Utility Commission from 1983 until his retirement

in December 1998.

He was a former member of the Columbia Rotary Club.

He was serving as Vice President of the Columbia Cemetery inc. at the time of his death

He was a Life Member of the Columbia V.F.W. Post 6097, Life Member of the University of

Kentucky Alumni Association, Member of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy

Mr. Lowe was a member of the Columbia Lodge # 96 and the Taylor County Royal Arch Masons

He was a member of the Columbia City Council from 1966 until 1972.

He served in the U.S. Navy from January 1944 until June 1946 and at Great Lake Naval Training

School and served aboard the USS Benevolence.

Mr. Lowe was formerly employed by Collins Drug Company from 1951- 1955, Frankfort Drugs

From 1955-1956 Young Rexall Drug from 1956-1957 he purchased Brown Drug Store on November

7, 1957 and operated Lowe's Drugs until 1982, he operated Madison Square Drug Store from

1982 until his retirement in December 1994.

Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by his wife: Olive Richards Lowe on October 22, 2005

Survived by one daughter: Connie Babakian and her husband Fred of Nashville, Tennessee

Two sisters: Elizabeth Lowe Whitfield of Bowling Green, KY and Mary Ritchey Bennett of Columbia

One granddaughter: Amy and her husband Duane Woodard of Hendersonville, TN

One great grandson: Dylan Woodard, Two nephews: Dr. John Blair Bennett of Bell Buckle, TN

James E. Bennett of Columbia, KY, Two nieces: Suzanne Dennis of White Mills, KY and Mary

Beth Phelps of Columbia, KY

He was preceded in death by one sister: Nancy Sims in 1988

Funeral service: Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the Columbia Christian Church

Burial in the Columbia Cemetery Visitation after 2:30 PM on Tuesday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary
