Joe Johnson age 91 years of Columbia, Ky. passed away Sunday July 21, 2013 at 10:44 PM
at the Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY after an illness
He was born July 12, 1922 in Columbia, KY the son of the late: Morrison Rowe and Ruby Kate Taylor Johnson of Adair County, Kentucky
Mr. Johnson was a member of the Hadley's Community Church, a US Army veteran of World War II receiving a Purple Heart, he was a lifetime member of the Columbia VFW Post 6097. He was a member of the Adair Co. Fair Board and served as President for several years. He also served as President of the Kentucky State Fair and Horse Show Board.
Joe Johnson was involved in the formation of the Adair County Little League Baseball
Program in 1959 and was actively involved for 50 years until declining health prevented his work.
He helped oversee the development and construction of a newer baseball facility in the late 1970's that was later named for him the Joe Johnson Little League Park,
He served as the Fifth District Little League Baseball Association District Administrator for several years. He also was a member of the Board of Directors for The Kentucky Little League Baseball Association for several years. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a farmer and worked with the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
Survived by his wife Ruth (Kelsay) Johnson of Columbia, KY
One son J. C. Johnson and wife: Vickie of Columbia, KY
One daughter JoAnn Jones and husband: Harry of Crestwood, KY
Five grandchildren survive: Kevin (Traci) Jones, Selina Jones, Carl M. (Sherri) Johnson, Leslie Stephens, Angela (Barry) Estes
Six great grandchildren: Baylee Johnson, Connor Johnson, Rachel Stephens, Luke Stephens, Zachary Estes, Kyle Estes
Funeral service: Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary
