Obituary

Joe Norman Coffey, 90, of Columbia, KY died Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Russell County Hospital.  He was born in Montpelier, KY on March 21, 1931 to the late Holland C. and Zelma Morrison Coffey.

Joe was a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church and a veteran of the U S Army, serving during the Korean War.  He was a very active life member of VFW Post 6097 and enjoyed working in his work shop, fishing and gardening.

Joe was a hard-working and loving husband, working as a certified explosive expert, certified pipeline welder, fabricator, supervisor, trainer and crew foreman.  After serving two years in the U. S Army Joe started his career working at H. C. Price Construction company from 1956-1969, Lake Head Pipeline from 1969-1970, Crew Foreman, H. C. Price Construction Company from 1970-1976, J. C. Riggs Company in 1976, owned and operated Coffey's Welding Shop from 1976-1980 and finishing his career at Garrison Construction Company from 1980 until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife Ada Troutman Coffey of Columbia, KY; five siblings Earl Coffey (Marilyn) of Columbia, KY, Gene Coffey (Lillie) of Louisville, KY, Carl Coffey (June) of Shepherdsville, KY, Ina Smith of Louisville, KY and Guinda Miller (Bobby) of Columbus, OH and several nieces and nephews that thought of him as a father figure.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Shirley Holt and her husband Orvil and another brother-in-law Lowell Smith.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery.  Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 6097.  Visitation will be on Wednesday after 7:00am at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Bro. Steve Martin will be officiating and pallbearers will be Shannon Coffey, Jason Coffey, Derek Miller, Gary Smith and Abe Cross.  Honorary pallbearers will be James Garrison, Gary Darlin and Gene Collins.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be made to the Green River Animal Shelter or Sugar Foot Farms and can be left at the funeral home.

The family request that everyone attending wear a mask or face covering.
