Jimmy Ray Nelson, 70, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, and formerly of Columbia, Kentucky, passed away on September 14, 2026, at his residence. 

Born on April 1, 1956, in Argo, Illinois to the late Arnold Ray and Flossie Maglene Baker Nelson, Mr. Nelson lived a life centered on hard work and the people he loved. He worked as a truck driver, a career that reflected his dedication and steady spirit.

Outside of work, Jimmy found joy in fishing and in spending time with his family and friends. Those simple and meaningful pleasures were an important part of his life and will remain among the memories cherished by those who knew him.

Survivors inlcude his stepdaughter Jennifer Arico Thiery; three grandchildren Victoria Thiery Wurzelbacher (Samuel), Brianna Thiery Maraman (Corey) and Douglas Austin Thiery; three great grandchildren Charlotte Wurzelbacher, Scarlett Wurzelbacher and Natalie Maraman; a brother Greg Nelson (Wendy) and a sister Lisa Nelson Fisher (Michael).

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Carol Jean Carlson Nelson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-6:00pm at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
