Gordon Leslie Vomocil, 80, of Columbia, KY passed away peacefully at his residence on July 12, 2026, just days before his 81st birthday. Born July 18, 1945, Gordon led a life marked by deep commitment to family, faith, and a curiosity about the world that inspired those who knew him.
Gordon was the cherished son of John Vomocil and Vare Patterson Vomocil, both of whom preceded him in death, he was also preceded by his wife Jeanene Marie Dockham Vomocil.
He is survived by his devoted children: daughters Jenny Peterson (Ed) and Audrey Kelsch (Dawnie). Gordon’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Zachary Peterson, Ben Peterson (Samara Patrick), Jayden Peterson, Jonah Peterson, Ashley Peterson (Paul Gissendanner, Jr.), and Marleigh Peterson. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Exander Peterson, Marcilene Peterson, Leo Oliver Gissendanner, Khalil Gissendanner, and Bravin Gissendanner. His brothers, Terry Paul Vomocil (Susan) and Boyd Earl Vomocil (Krystal), also survive him, along with extended family and friends who will remember him fondly.
Gordon had a spirit of exploration and wonder. He loved traveling, always eager to experience new places and cultures. His fascination with astronomy reflected his profound appreciation for the beauty and mystery of the universe. Whether gazing at the stars or planning his next journey, Gordon inspired those around him to seek understanding and adventure.
A committed member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon lived a life guided by faith and service. His integrity, kindness, and unwavering sense of duty touched many lives within his faith community and beyond.
In honoring Mr. Vomocil's wishes the family chose cremation and no services are scheduled at this time.
Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
