Obituary

Elizabeth Frances Johnson Garnett, 100, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Summit Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Columbia, KY

Mrs. Garnett was born in Adair County on June 22, 1914, the daughter of the late Albert and Enna Burbridge Johnson, descendants of prominent pioneer families of Adair County. She was a homemaker, and in later years managed the Garnett farms.

She was a graduate of Glensfork High School and studied music at Lindsey Wilson Academy, a member of Columbia Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a charter member of the Glensfork Homemakers Club, a gourmet cook, a talented seamstress, and an accomplished musician. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Garnett in 1989

Three sisters: Malcus Breeding, Rachel Estes and Madge Calhoun; and one nephew, Owen Johnson Estes.

She is survived by two daughters: Martha Chamberlain of Columbia, KY

Mary Ann Dowling (Tom) of Corbin, KY

Two grandchildren: David Chamberlain (Lastenia) of Crestview, Florida

Elizabeth Trotter (Greg) of Georgetown, KY

Four nieces: Portia Winchester (Allen) of Lexington, KY Mary Enna Campbell of Columbia, KY Sandra Milton (Tom) of Louisville, KY and Suzann Thompson (Don) of Louisville, KY

Three nephews: Jimmy Breeding (Norene) of Bowling Green, KY Carlisle Breeding (Rita) of Galashiels Selkirkshire, Scotland and Ben Breeding (Susan) of Springfield, KY

She is also survived by several great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service: Monday, October 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home

Clergy officiating: Dr. Michael O'Neil

Interment in the Columbia Cemetery

The family request visitation after 10:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home
