Doris Jean Stargel Holmes, 79, of Columbia, KY died Saturday, March 19, 2022 at her residence.  She was born on July 17, 1942 in Adair County to the late Jake and Danford Price Stargel.  She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Ray Holmes.

Doris was a member of the Purdy Separate Baptist Church and formerly taught Sunday school at the church.  She enjoyed her chickens and cooking for her family, friends and neighbors.

Survivors include three children Anthony Ray Holmes, Marcella York (Steve) and Annette Holmes all of Columbia, KY; six grandchildren Dean White (Mary Lee), Red Holmes (Nancy), Jean George, Megan Wright (Thomas), Lula Wheat (Chris) and Everett Luttrell (Danielle); eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; a brother Jimmy Stargel (Martha) of Fairdale, KY and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew Jessie Bryant.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Peggy Luttrell and thirteen siblings Clarence, Gordon, Willie, Tom, Dallas, Jerry, Ora Lee, Alta, Nina, Betty, Darlene, Clemie and Mary Jane.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the New Hope Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00pm and will continue on Wednesday morning until time for the service.
