Danny Ray Lawless, Sr.

Danny Lawless led a life filled with faith, hope and love.  Born and raised in Russell County, Kentucky, Danny died on October 12, 2017, surrounded by his family.

          After graduating from Russell County High School, Danny enlisted with the United States Marine Corps.  Stationed at 8th and I Marine Corps Barracks in Washington, D.C., he proudly served on the White House Honor Guard during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.

          After being honorably discharged, Danny returned to his Kentucky roots where he and his wife, Ruby, began raising their family.  A stranger to no one and fast friend to everyone he met, Danny was an expert salesman.  He retired several years ago and became a gentleman farmer.

          Danny was a steadfast Christian.  He served as a Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher, and active member of many other ministries at both South Jefferson Christian Church in Louisville and Russell Springs Christian Church later in life.

          Danny was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and all things that involved a love of the outdoors.  One of his greatest joys came from sharing those experiences with children, grandchildren and friends.  A fierce competitor on the softball field, basketball court and golf course – Danny especially enjoyed the camaraderie of teamwork.  Long after his days on the playing fields had ended, he passed on the competitive spirit and love of “the game” to his grandchildren as a steadfast fan and unofficial coach – regardless of their endeavors.  PaPa was the number one fan of Adam, Noah, Lillie, Ann Elizabeth and Raelynn.

          He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruby, and their three children: Jo Ellen Lawless (Richard Badaracco); Youlanda (Adam) Carrico; and Danny Ray (Jennifer) Lawless, Jr. as well as his grandchildren -- Adam Badaracco, Ann Elizabeth Badaracco, Lillie Carrico, Noah Lawless and Raelynn Lawless.  He is  also survived by his brother, Doyle (Lela) Lawless, sister, Lillie (Gene) Coffey, and sisters-in-law Margaret Lawless and Wanda “Joey” (Ronnie) Knight as well as several nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Harrison and Lyda Lawless, a brother, Mervin Lawless and infant sister, Doris Lawless.

          His family is grateful for the excellent medical care Danny received during the last months of his life – especially the nursing staff at Norton Hospital’s cardiac telemetry and intensive care units.

Funeral service Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 3:00 PM CT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home

Visitation after 12 noon CT Sunday October 15, 2107

Burial will be on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM EST 10:00 CST at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, KY with military rites.
